2019 Summer Tests: Wales Team Revealed

With just over a week to go until Wales begin their series of Summer Tests against South Africa, Malawi, Trinidad & Tobago and Grenada, the 15-player Wales squad can now be revealed.

Welsh Netball would like to congratulate the following players on their selection…

Cathy Bastian
(Dinas NC)
Sara Bell (Central NC)
Catrin Bowen (Cowbridge NC)
Betsy Creak
(Bristol Romans)
Brooke Collett
(Ystrad Mynach NC)
Suzy Drane
(Celtic Dragons)
Bethan Dyke
(Celtic Dragons)
Kyra Jones
(Celtic Dragons)
Nia Jones
(Celtic Dragons)
Lydia Hitchings
(Celtic Dragons)
Lucy Howells
(Celtic Dragons)
Eleanor Roberts
(Celtic Dragons)
Georgia Rowe
(Severn Stars)
Leila Thomas
(Team Bath)
Chantelle Walker Jones (Central NC)

The Wales squad features a mixture of experience and youth, with three Vitality Netball Superleague franchises represented in the group. There are six uncapped players in the squad, alongside familiar faces of Sara Bell, Suzy Drane, Cathy Bastian, Beth Dyke, Kyra Jones, Nia Jones, Eleanor Roberts, Georgia Rowe and Leila Thomas.

Clare Jones (Hucclecote Netball Club) was originally selected for the squad, however, following a hand injury has had to withdraw on medical advice. We wish Clare all the best with her recovery. Welsh Netball would also like to pay tribute to the members of the long squad who were not successful on this occasion. Their hard work and determination has been a vital part of the squad’s preparation for the Tests.

Rachel Bayley, Welsh Netball’s Head of Performance said: “This is a really exciting new squad with a big challenge ahead of it. We are pleased to have been able to select a range of players from both the Superleague and from some of Wales’ leading clubs. The 2022 Commonwealth Games are on the horizon and next week’s internationals will see the beginning of the journey towards qualification.”

The first assignment for Julie Hoornweg’s team will be South Africa on Thursday 4 July at 7.30pm. You can get tickets for all of Wales’ 2019 Summer Tests here.
