Alison Davies to Umpire at Cardiff’s Netball Europe Open Championships.

Welsh netball umpire Alison Davies continues her successful year of elite umpiring at the Netball Europe Open Championships in Cardiff this October.  Alison, along with five other umpires have been invited to officiate at the upcoming netball Championships which will see Wales, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Fiji take the court to showcase world class competition at the Sport Wales National Centre from the 5th to 8th of October.

Alison of Fforestfach recently received the International Umpiring Award [IUA] from the International Netball Federation at the Netball World Youth Cup in July 2017.  The IUA is the highest qualification level that can be achieved by a netball umpire.  Alison is currently the only umpire in Wales that holds the IUA status. This will be her first home competition since receiving her award.

Welsh Netball’s Head of Performance, Rosie Pretorius said:

“We are so proud of Alison’s achievements, she has worked hard and is a fantastic representative of Wales’ Team White as she travels the globe to umpire.  The Welsh Netball community is excited to welcome Alison back to the home of Welsh Netball in Cardiff and to watch her do what she does best.  No doubt she will inspire umpires to push forward to achieve their goals.”

On her recent achievements, Alison said:

“To say I have achieved my IUA at the Netball World Youth Cup semi-final is still like a dream which I have to keep repeating to myself,” said Alison, who is the Wellbeing Director of the Middle School at the brand new Ysgol Bae Baglan ‘super school’ in Port Talbot.

“So many people have played such a big part in me getting here, it’s a dream come true.”

Alison began umpiring in 2012 before quickly starting her international umpiring career later the same year in Gibraltar at a Netball Europe Ranking tournament.  She has since built on her experience umpiring at the prestigious Vitality Netball Superleague after being selected into its umpiring pool.

Alison has had a very busy year umpiring around the globe, including the recent Summer Quad Series in Northern Ireland, the World University Netball Championships in Miami in 2016, the Celtic Clash between Scotland and Northern Ireland the same year, and of course the Netball World Youth Cup in Botswana, 2017.
