We are thrilled to announce Llantrisant Netball Club as our Organisation of the Month for August! In 2023, the club celebrated a milestone 40th anniversary, a testament to their enduring dedication and vital role in the Welsh netball community. For four decades, Llantrisant Netball Club has been a true cornerstone, dedicating themselves to promoting the sport through training, coaching, and league play, fostering skill development and community bonds.
Llantrisant Netball Club is a vibrant community, boasting almost 300 women and girls who benefit from their wide-ranging opportunities. The club passionately caters to players of all ages and stages, offering sessions from U7s all the way to Seniors. They even provide fantastic social netball sessions, perfect for those looking to rekindle their love and enjoyment for the sport in a supportive environment.
Beyond providing competitive playing opportunities, the club demonstrates a remarkable commitment to sustainability by investing in its future. They actively support their coaches and umpires in skill development and the pursuit of qualifications, ensuring a continuous stream of expertise and dedication for years to come. The club, along with Chair Jean Foster, work tirelessly pursuing funding opportunities to finance numerous courses to develop their workforce. As a result, they now have a strong and hardworking executive committee of five members, and a committed workforce of over 25 umpires, coaches and team managers.

The efforts of Llantrisant Netball Club and their coaches have consistently translated into impressive successes on the court. In May of this year, they travelled to Bangor to compete in our U12 and U14 National Club Championships, after successfully qualifying both age groups. Their U14’s proudly clinched a fantastic top four result, and their U12’s came 7th in Wales, an impressive feat showing the depth of talent they have in multiple age-groups.

This year, the club has seen 12 players earn their spot in Glamorgan Valleys County teams and 25 players successfully gained selection into our regional academy. Their triumphs extend beyond junior age groups, with three of their Senior Players successfully chosen to play for Valleys Volcanoes in our competitive FleetEV National League, who, after a great season finished second in the League this year, after a nail biting final against reigning champions North East Inferno.
Perhaps one of the key ingredients to the club’s profound success is their dedication to go the extra mile for their players, as well as their hard work off court to develop and foster community bonds. Llantrisant Netball Club arrange tournament t-shirts for any players attending our National Competitions, and their members are frequently seen showing their support at Cardiff Dragons matches. The club organises annual junior marathon days followed by a senior mixed tournament, annual presentation evenings, annual junior netball tour to Butlins for their U11’s, U13’s and U15’s, with seniors attending squad socials. Furthermore, their commitment to giving back to the local community is evident through the various charity events they have hosted over the years, including supporting kit donations and wristbands for cancer charities.
The success of Llantrisant Netball club would not have been possible without their Chair, Jean Foster. Jean has previously been our Volunteer of the Month due to her extensive and boundless contributions to grassroots and performance netball; you can read all about her work here: https://walesnetball.com/january-volunteer-of-the-month/. Rhianydd Reynolds commented: ““Jean Jean the Netball Queen”. Llantrisant Netball club wouldn’t be what it is today without all Jean’s love, passion and hard work for netball and developing our young players.”
It’s clear that Llantrisant Netball Club is a true gem in the heart of Rhondda Cynon Taff providing all involved the opportunity to grow, develop, and be part of something truly special. We wish the club nothing but continued success for the years to come.
At the halfway point of every month, Wales Netball will announce its Organisation of the Month. An article will be displayed on our website and a post will be shared across all our social media channels.
