Welsh Netball is pleased to share the news that it has entered in to a three-year partnership with Cardiff Sports Orthopaedics, which becomes the Official Medical Services Provider to Welsh Netball and Celtic Dragons. The partnership sees Mr Angus Robertson, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Fellow of the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine, become the Chief Medical Officer to the National Governing Body, its international squads and the Celtic Dragons netball franchise.
Mr Robertson, Managing Partner of Cardiff Sports Orthopaedics, will be supporting Welsh Netball and Celtic Dragons squads as part of their elite performance programmes and participation in domestic and international elite competition. This includes the Vitality Netball Superleague, Netball Europe competitions, the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2023 Netball World Cup. He will manage our elite netball athletes’ sports medical needs and will support the NGB on all medical aspects of their COVID-19 risk mitigation measures.
Speaking about the new partnership, Angus Robertson said: “I am looking forward to working with Welsh Netball and Celtic Dragons to provide support during the current COVID crisis and look forward to supporting their athletes as they build towards a return to competition and the next Commonwealth Games.”

Fern Burrage-Male, Welsh Netball’s Performance Lead was also pleased to have Cardiff Sports Orthopaedics as part of the National Governing Body’s performance set-up. She said: “We are very excited to welcome Cardiff Sports Orthopaedics as our official medical services partners for the next three years. Angus is going to be instrumental to our plans for the current international performance cycle as well as for Dragons’ 2021 Superleague campaign.
“The team at Cardiff Sports Orthopaedics will be providing world-class medical services to our athletes and supporting them to be the best they can be. With Cardiff Sports Orthopaedics supporting us, our elite netballers will be in excellent hands and will be able to train and compete with confidence.”
Cardiff Sports Orthopaedics is a partnership of consultant orthopaedic surgeons based at Spire Cardiff Hospital in South Wales. It specialises in the diagnosis of bone, joint, and musculoskeletal disorders including sports injuries, degenerative joint disease and arthritis. The clinic offers treatment to patients from across Wales, and further afield, including the latest options including keyhole surgery and ligament reconstruction. The clinic also specialises in medicolegal opinions in personal injury cases from whiplash, soft tissue and minor injuries to fractures.
