Welsh Netball to Introduce New Coaching Standards

Welsh Netball is currently reviewing how its netball workforce operates. As a result, there will be some changes made to the minimum standard of deployment (qualification) required for head coaches in Wales.

Previously, to be insured to lead the majority of netball sessions, you needed to have had a UKCC Level 2 coaching qualification. Welsh Netball realises that obtaining a Level 2 qualification can be quite time-consuming and expensive if you do not have access Community Chest funding. We also recognise that there are some fantastic netball deliverers in Wales who have a lot of knowledge and experience, but may not hold the Level 2 qualification. Therefore after a period of consultation with key individuals in the coaching workforce we have produced a new set of standards that a coach must meet in order to deliver the relevant netball sessions. Please refer to the table below to identify that netball environment that you coach in and then look at the qualifications required.

The new standards for coaching qualifications will become live and valid for insurance purposes on 1 December 2020. In addition, over the next six months, Welsh Netball will be launching supporting CPD for coaches and umpires in Wales.

If you have any questions or need qualifications clarified please contact our Workforce Development Co-ordinator Sue Williams via email: sue.williams@walesnetball.com

Welsh Netball will continue to deliver UKCC Level 1 and Level 2 coaching qualifications and is currently working on a part-virtual and part-practical delivery model for these qualifications.
