December Organisation of the Month

The Cardiff & District League is our Organisation of the Month for December, due to their exceptional organisation and growth, which has allowed them to run at a high standard for decades.


Established over 30 years ago, the Cardiff & District League has become one of the most competitive, talent flourishing and aspirational leagues in Wales. The league has progressed massively since its emergence and with over 80 teams in its membership it has become a seven-division hub of fast, skilful, and ambitious netball.


The Cardiff & District League have a committee that is very forward thinking, always looking to modernise, and always sharing best practices to ensure that the league runs smoothly and retains high standards.

The league not only allows many players to enjoy high levels of competition on a weekly basis, but it is also a breeding ground for excellent coaches and umpires, through the well managed and disciplined umpire and coaching pathways led by very competent volunteers.


The league has 45 active umpires spread throughout its seven divisions, with eight members on the umpire mentoring team ensuring feedback and advancement within the league. Feedback forms allow players to offer thoughts on umpiring standards
inside games, with the goal of improving and evaluating their job. Umpires can enhance their skills or be congratulated for good performance based on the information gathered.


Even though a large number of dedicated volunteers allow the Cardiff and District League to run smoothly and effectively, it is the leadership from Chairperson Lesley Riddell that empowers the Cardiff and District netball community. Her professionalism
allows league meetings to be planned effectively, conducted according to the constitution and that matters are dealt with in an orderly, efficient manner. She always consults committee members, listening to all views and making decisions that are informed and fair.


Cardiff and District League also host end of season awards to recognise the incredible work and effort their volunteers contribute to the league to ensure its success. A big thank you to the league for creating a hub for fun, talent, and growth for the Cardiff netball community!


At the halfway point of every month, Wales Netball will announce its Organisation of the Month. An article will be displayed on our website and a post will be shared across all our social media channels.
