Netball Leaders Course Off to a Flying Start

Welsh Netball’s new Netball Leaders course has gotten off to a great start over the last few weeks as the National Governing Body for Netball in Wales seeks to train a new generation of netball coaches with exceptional leadership skills.

The new course, which started in Summer 2017, has already proven popular across Wales with participants of all ages keen to get involved. Netball Leaders marks the first step on the coaching ladder for aspiring netball coaches and seeks to impart the knowledge and skills needed to run fun and safe netball activities.

The session was held at Hawthorn High School, Rhondda Cynon Taff, last week and it was pleasing to see a huge level of enthusiasm from the participants there.

One of the attendees was Bryony Tuck, who plays netball for Chepstow Netball Club. She was very keen to share her thoughts about the course and how it is equipping her for a future as a netball leader.

She said: “I’ve really enjoyed it, I’ve learned lots of games and lots of activities that I can use when running a session. I decided to come on the course because I’ve had the joy of being taught so much and I want to give something back to the sport.

She added: “I think that it is brilliant to get more people giving back to the sport so more people can then learn how to play and enjoy netball.”

Laura Rees, Netball Development Officer for the Central South region was pleased by the reaction locally. She said: “It was lovely to see so many passionate and ambitious people looking to get on the coaching pathway in Wales. I’m confident that we’ve seen some great future netball leaders here today.”

The course is suitable for anybody aged over 13 years old and lasts 6 hours. It is comprised of both practice and theory. You can book onto a Netball Leaders course for £35 (£65 non-affiliated members.)
