February Organisation of the Month

Our Organisation of the Month for February goes out to a rapidly growing league, Pêl-rwyd Iau Sir Gâr – Carmarthenshire Junior Netball League. Alongside the quickly increasing number of teams taking part in the league, the committee behind the league have also progressed and developed their structures, governance and messaging.

Pêl-rwyd Iau Sir Gâr have become the 2nd biggest affiliated league in West Wales, with four age group categories including U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s. This structure is comprised of 7 divisions, 12 clubs and a whopping 74 teams made up of 713 players. Throughout the season, 510 matches are scheduled across multiple venues for these budding netballers, of which, takes a huge amount of organisation.

Before the season starts, all players, spectators and officials are expected to read, sign and adhere to their very own code of conduct, to ensure that there is a positive approach to the enjoyment of netball for all. Their code of conduct enforces four key themes, to enjoy the game; celebrate effort and play from all teams; adhere and encourage children to play according to the rules and respect official’s decisions; and show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators, who make it all possible!

One of the biggest new improvements from Pêl-rwyd Iau Sir Gâr is the introduction of their website, which you can view here. Now, all match results and league tables can be viewed here at the click of a button by everyone. The website also features upcoming match schedules and the league calendar featuring the agenda of matches to be played and at what location. There are a few special features too, including team statistics, where teams are ranked based on the number of goals scored across the season; and player statistics, where players are ranked based on the number of goals scored across the season, and how many times they have been awarded best players.

To ensure successful and enjoyable sessions can be had by all, the league produced a 16-page handbook covering a multitude of topics, including code of conduct, team registration and eligibility, season schedule, rules and regulations, match day procedures, disciplinary procedures, awards and recognition, and key contact information. A document such as this provides excellent clarity to all clubs involved in the league, with their excellent governance setting out expectations early on.

We want to say thank you to the fabulous voluntary committee team behind Pêl-rwyd Iau Sir Gâr, for their continuous development and improvement of structures and governance. We wish you all the best in the future and can’t wait to see what’s next for the league!

At the halfway point of every month, Wales Netball will announce its Organisation of the Month. An article will be displayed on our website and a post will be shared across all our social media channels.
