July Organisation of the Month

In the heart of North West Wales, something special has flourished within the netball community. Cynghrair Pêl-Rwyd Gwynedd a Môn (Gwynedd and Anglesey Netball League) isn’t just about competitive matches and developing players; it’s a vibrant testament to the power of language and culture. Their unwavering commitment to embedding and celebrating the Welsh language within their league has not only earned them our Organisation of the Month award but also national recognition.

Established nearly two decades ago, the Gwynedd and Anglesey Netball League provides a platform for local teams to partake in netball games, currently boasting around 25 active teams. What sets them apart is their proactive and passionate approach to fostering the Welsh language, with the committee ensuring all paperwork and social media posts are published bilingually, as well as all correspondence offered in Welsh. The league then runs itself in Welsh, with players playing in Welsh, Umpires managing games in Welsh, and supporters shouting their encouragement in Welsh.

Two years ago, the league was proudly honoured with the prestigious ‘Cynnig Cymraeg’ (‘The Welsh Offer’) award from the Welsh Language Commissioner. This significant accolade celebrated their commitment to the Welsh language and set a strong foundation for continued growth. Following this recognition, the league diligently compiled a progress report, which was enthusiastically commended by the Welsh Language Commissioner, highlighting their ongoing commitment to improvement. Their ‘Cynnig Cymraeg’ certificate and Welsh language action plan is included in the League playing venue Byw’n Iach Plas Silyn, as well as promoted on social media and presented at their last two AGM’s, ensuring widespread awareness and participation. Reflecting on this accolade two years on, the league committee recently told us:

“Welsh is naturally the first language of Cynghrair Pêl-rwyd Gwynedd a Môn with the majority involved from all angles first language Welsh speakers. Being awarded the Cynnig Cymraeg accolade only strengthened what we already know about Welsh being at the forefront of all we do, but gave us guidance as to how we improve, as nothing is ever perfect.”

More recently, their dedication has once again garnered national attention, with the League being shortlisted as nominees for the Welsh Sports Association’s Sport Industry Awards 2025 in the highly competitive category of ‘Best Commitment to the Welsh Language’. To be recognised at this level is a tremendous achievement and a powerful testament to the inspiring work taking place within their netball community. Since being recognised at this level, a number of their teams and umpires have now included the orange ‘Cymraeg’ logo on their training tops, kits and umpiring uniforms, showcasing their pride in the Welsh language.

In recognition of earning our Organisation of the Month, the league responded with heartfelt thanks:

“Am fraint cael ein nodi fel sefydliad y mis! Rydym yn gynghrair fach yng Ngogledd Orllewin Cymru, gyda timau o bob cwr o Wynedd ac Ynys Môn. Ein nod yw cynnig llwyfan i dimau chwarae pêl-rwyd o safon uchel gyda’r iaith Gymraeg yn rhan fawr o’r ffordd y cynhelir y gynghrair!”

“What a privilege to be identified as organisation of the month! We are a small league in North West Wales, with teams from all over Gwynedd and Anglesey. Our aim is to offer a platform for teams to play netball of a high standard with the Welsh language being a large part of the way the league is held!”

Cynghrair Pêl-Rwyd Gwynedd a Môn stands as a shining example of how sport can be a powerful vehicle for cultural preservation and promotion. Their passion for netball is matched only by their passion for the Welsh language, creating a vibrant and inclusive environment where both can thrive. Diolch yn fawr iawn am eich holl ymdrechion!

At the halfway point of every month, Wales Netball will announce its Organisation of the Month. An article will be displayed on our website and a post will be shared across all our social media channels.

Welsh Article:

Yng nghalon Gogledd Orllewin Cymru, mae rhywbeth arbennig wedi ffynnu o fewn y gymuned pêl-rwyd. Nid yn unig yw Cynghrair Pêl-Rwyd Gwynedd a Môn yn ymwneud â gemau cystadleuol a datblygu chwaraewyr; mae’n dyst i bŵer iaith a diwylliant. Mae eu hymrwymiad diwyro i ymgorffori a dathlu’r Gymraeg yn eu cynghrair nid yn unig wedi ennill gwobr Sefydliad y Mis Pêl-rwyd Cymru ond hefyd cydnabyddiaeth genedlaethol.

Wedi’i sefydlu bron i ddau ddegawd yn ôl, mae Cynghrair Pêl-rwyd Gwynedd a Môn yn darparu llwyfan i dimau lleol gymryd rhan mewn gemau pêl-rwyd, ac ar hyn o bryd mae ganddi tua 25 o dimau gweithredol. Yr hyn sy’n eu gwahaniaethu yw eu dull rhagweithiol ac angerddol o feithrin y Gymraeg, gyda’r pwyllgor yn sicrhau bod yr holl waith papur a negeseuon ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol yn cael eu cyhoeddi’n ddwyieithog, yn ogystal â’r holl ohebiaeth a gynigir yn Gymraeg. Mae’r gynghrair gweithredu drwy’r iaith Gymraeg, gyda chwaraewyr yn chwarae yn Gymraeg, dyfarnwyr yn rheoli gemau yn Gymraeg, a chefnogwyr yn gweiddi eu hanogaeth yn Gymraeg.

Dwy flynedd yn ôl, cafodd y gynghrair ei hanrhydeddu’n gyda gwobr fawreddog ‘Cynnig Cymraeg’ gan Gomisiynydd y Gymraeg. Roedd yr anrhydedd sylweddol hon yn dathlu eu hymrwymiad i’r Iaith Gymraeg ac yn gosod sylfaen gadarn ar gyfer twf parhaus. I ddarllen mwy am hyn, cliciwch yma: Wythnos y Gymraeg – Dathlu Cynghrair Pêl-rwyd Gwynedd a Môn

Yn dilyn y gydnabyddiaeth hon, lluniodd y gynghrair adroddiad ar y cynnydd a wnaed ers derbyn y wobr, a gafodd ei gymeradwyo unwaith yn rhagor gan Gomisiynydd y Gymraeg, gan dynnu sylw at eu hymrwymiad parhaus i wella. Mae eu tystysgrif ‘Cynnig Cymraeg’ a’u cynllun gweithredu ar gyfer yr iaith Gymraeg wedi ei harddangos mewn hysbysfwrdd yn lleoliad chwarae y Gynghrair sef Byw’n Iach Plas Silyn ym Mhenygroes, yn ogystal â’u hyrwyddo ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol a’u cyflwyno yn y ddwy Gyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol diwethaf, gan sicrhau ymwybyddiaeth a chyfranogiad eang. Wrth fyfyrio ar yr anrhydedd hon ddwy flynedd yn ddiweddarach, dywedodd pwyllgor y gynghrair wrthym yn ddiweddar:

“Yn naturiol, Cymraeg yw iaith gyntaf Cynghrair Pêl-rwyd Gwynedd a Môn gyda’r mwyafrif o unigolion sydd yng nghlwm a hi o bob ongl yn siaradwyr iaith gyntaf. Roedd ennill gwobr Cynnig Cymraeg ond yn cryfhau’r hyn yr ydym eisoes yn ei wybod mai un o’n blaenoriaethau wrth weithredu fel cynghrair yw’r iaith Gymraeg, ond rhoddodd arweiniad i ni ar sut rydym yn gwella, gan nad oes unrhyw beth byth yn berffaith.”

Yn fwy diweddar, mae eu hymroddiad unwaith eto wedi denu sylw cenedlaethol, gyda’r Gynghrair ar restr fer ar gyfer Gwobrau Diwydiant Chwaraeon Cymdeithas Chwaraeon Cymru 2025 yn y categori hynod gystadleuol ‘Ymrwymiad Gorau i’r Gymraeg’. Mae cael eich cydnabod ar y lefel hon yn gyflawniad aruthrol ac yn dyst bwerus i’r gwaith ysbrydoledig sy’n digwydd yn eu cymuned pêl-rwyd. Ers cael eu cydnabod ar y lefel hon, mae nifer o’u timau a’u dyfarnwyr bellach wedi cynnwys logo oren ‘Cymraeg’ ar eu topiau hyfforddi, citiau a gwisgoedd dyfarnwyr, gan ddangos eu balchder yn yr iaith Gymraeg.

Mewn cydnabyddiaeth o ennill Sefydliad y Mis Pêl-rwyd Cymru, ymatebodd y gynghrair:

“Am fraint cael ein nodi fel sefydliad y mis! Rydym yn gynghrair fach yng Ngogledd Orllewin Cymru, gyda timau o bob cwr o Wynedd ac Ynys Môn. Ein nod yw cynnig llwyfan i dimau chwarae pêl-rwyd o safon uchel gyda’r iaith Gymraeg yn rhan fawr o’r ffordd y cynhelir y gynghrair!”

Mae Cynghrair Pêl-Rwyd Gwynedd a Môn yn enghraifft ddisglair o sut y gall chwaraeon fod yn gyfrwng pwerus i ddiogelu a hyrwyddo diwylliant Cymreig. Mae eu hangerdd am bêl-rwyd yn mynd law yn llaw a’u hangerdd am yr iaith Gymraeg, gan greu amgylchedd bywiog a chynhwysol lle gall y ddau ffynnu. Diolch yn fawr iawn am eich holl ymdrechion!

Hanner ffordd dryw bob mis, bydd Pêl-rwyd Cymru yn cyhoeddi ei Sefydliad y Mis. Bydd erthygl yn cael ei harddangos ar ein gwefan a bydd post yn cael ei rhannu ar draws ein holl sianeli cyfryngau cymdeithasol.
