Described as the heart of Colwyn Netball Club, Amy Hall has a bigger impact than she might imagine. She’s the quiet force, the consistent presence, and the unwavering champion of women in sport who makes netball a safe and welcoming space for everyone, without ever seeking recognition for her efforts. It’s time to shine a spotlight on the profound impact Amy has on those around her by awarding her our Volunteer of the Month for July.
Amy’s influence is felt most strongly as the Captain of Colwyn Netball Club’s second senior team, Colwyn Comets. She leads not just with strategy, but with compassion, encouragement, and an unwavering commitment to the growth and wellbeing of every team member. When spirits need lifting, Amy is there. Her steady, positive mindset keeps the Comets running smoothly.
She’s often the first face new members see, and they instantly feel welcomed and at ease due to her charm and kindness, something Jemma Milburn greatly appreciated when she joined the club a few years ago:
“When I first joined Colwyn Netball Club a few years ago I was not particularly enjoying netball. The first face I saw when I joined my new club being Amy, the difference in me now is unreal, and that is thanks to her. She showed me my strengths, she developed me as a player, and she always embraced me with open arms, from the minute I walked in.”
The past year was a challenging one for the Comets, filled with hard fought games, a complete mix up of players, numerous injuries and tough losses. Yet, Amy’s dedication and positivity never wavered, keeping spirits high despite it all. Vice-Captain, Jen Jones, notes how Amy often builds up her team and always has a smile on her face. Squad member Charlotte Filer highlights how Amy always makes them laugh, both on and off court.
“Amy is such a wonderful person. Her personality, humour and grit shines through whenever she’s playing and she’s made such an amazing captain this year. She’s someone that makes you want to show up and try your best because she’s just so great to be around. Her leadership throughout the season is unmatched, helping everyone on the team both bond and improve.” – Charlotte Armstrong (Colwyn Comets Squad Member)

Amy’s commitment extends far beyond her captaincy. She works hand-in-hand with the club coaches, helping to translate training into game-day successes. She’s also becoming increasingly involved with the junior section, supporting coaches and ensuring the club has a strong and vibrant future. Her passion for taking on more responsibility led her to join the committee as Vice Chair this year, a move that Club Manager Tracey Young applauds, noting, “her enthusiasm is infectious. Well done, Amy!”
With over 30 years and counting as a player, Amy’s own love for the game is palpable, and she constantly empowers women in sport. She offers a helping hand to all, no matter their stage in life, sporting ability or shyness. She ensures they know Colwyn is a place they can call home. Thank you, Amy, for championing women in sport and making sure your club is welcoming to all, your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for everything you do!
