Wales Under 21 Squad Announced

Welsh Netball is pleased to announce its Wales Under 21 squad for 2020, with players representing teams from across Wales and beyond. 2020 will be a crucial year for the Under 21 age group as qualification for the 2021 Netball World Youth Cup in Fiji draws ever closer.

Nikki Lloyd, Wales Under 21 head coach spoke of her excitement with the selection of a new squad. She said: “Following on from a strong and successful Under 21 Netball Europe in October, I was really looking forward to seeing the next generation of athletes at trials on 4 January and they didn’t disappoint.

“The strength, depth and variety of backgrounds and playing styles of the trialists along with the strong progress of the Under 21s and Under 17s through to the senior squad before Christmas created opportunity and made selections a challenging but exciting job for the selectors.

“With World Youth Cup qualification event just 9 and a half months away, this is a key year for our Under 21 athletes with the event in Fiji in 2021 providing invaluable international overseas competition experience for our young athletes. Working towards this tournament has been key in my planning since I was appointed in December 2018.

“I would like to congratulate all those selected and now look forward to a strong start in our first session on 9 February as we continue on our road to Fiji.

“I would also like to thank all the volunteer management and selectors who supported the running of these trials and to all athletes for putting themselves forward and I wish those unsuccessful at this time the best as they work on their feedback.”
