Neath Port Talbot College Regional Academy Spotlight

Continuing with the Regional Academy Spotlights, we next look at Neath Port Talbot College (NPTC) Regional Academy and the work they have been doing in their sessions this season so far. NPTC currently have one squad of U13.

About the Neath Port Talbot College Regional Academy

Neath Port Talbot College U13 Regional Academy is based at Llandarcy Academy of Sport, Llandarcy Park, Neath and is led by Head Coach Alex Perrins, with support from Assistant Coach Nicola Roberts.

Alex Perrins (U13 Head Coach):

We train together weekly on a Sunday from 12:15 to 13:15. The main aim of our Regional Academy is to support the development of passionate athletes incorporating the ‘Welsh Way’ style of play. Encouraging the individual athletes to progress onto the Wales Netball Performance Pathway.

As a coach, I feel extremely grateful to be part of this U13 Regional Academy. It’s exciting to be the first U13 squad in NPTC, creating the future for Wales Netball in our region. The athletes each week have shown tremendous growth throughout the season so far. They are consistent in improving their skills and working together as a squad. All athletes have a great energy during sessions staying positive and focused.

We have recently played games against U13 University of Wales Trinity Saint David Regional Academy on 16th February 2025 and Bridgend College Regional Academy on 6th March 2025. This was a great opportunity for us to put our skills and development into competitive games.

Regional Academy Athlete, Betti-Mia Aprea:

“I am really enjoying the training academy. I like playing with others who are at a high level as it helps me improve myself and gives me a challenge. The skills training and drills are fun, and I feel like my defence and attacking skills are getting better. Every week we get to know each other more and are bonding as a team. The coaches are really nice and friendly. I’m learning so much off them”.

Regional Academy Athlete, Laila Dennis:

“Regional academy is really good and has helped me understand more about netball. I have learnt new things and have felt I have improved”.
