#volunteersweek – Veronica Meddick

Veronica Meddick is legendary within the netball community
in South Central Wales.  Originally from
Ely, Veronica has been volunteering in netball since 1997.  Veronica lives and breathes the sport, and
manages to fit her netball life around her day job as a part-time support
worker, and full time mum to Tia and Halle.

Veronica’s list of volunteering credentials is endless,
including PTC Head Coach; Fixture Secretary for the Cardiff and District
Netball Association [CDNA;, Umpiring Secretary for the CDNA; Presentation
Organiser; Junior League Fixture Secretary; Senior Team Coach; Junior Club
Coach; Sport Wales Community Volunteer; Umpire; oh and actually plays a spot of
netball from time to time.

When asked why she enjoys and continues to give so many
hours of her time to netball, Veronica replies:

“When you see people achieve their goals, it makes me happy
that I was part of it.”

Veronica lists many highlights from almost twenty years of
volunteering.   She is very proud of how
the Leckwith Netball Club has grown since it first started with jus tone1 team,
which now boasts seven adult teams and nine junior teams. In fact, her Eastside
U13s won the U13 Welsh National Clubs Championships this year.

The Purple Army member describes how her fellow netballers
have been very supportive over the years,

“I’d like to thank everyone who has put up with me.  To Sarah Glavin, Anita James, Denise Roberts,
Tasha Charles, Jo Redmond, Carys Griffin – thank you all for being my sounding
boards and volunteers.

“I’d also like to thank my husband for being a netball
widow, and my daughters Tia and Halle.
They are my inspiration.”

Veronica added that one of her proudest moments has been to
witness her daughter, Tia, be selected for Wales’ U15 squad.  Tia has also become the youngest Level C
qualified umpire in Wales.   Congratulations Tia!
