Every month, we shine a spotlight on an organisation that truly embodies the spirit of our sport. For November, the honour goes to Thundercats Netball Club, a phenomenal club that has gone from strength to strength, stepping up in a massive way to ensure the continued participation of nearly 100 junior netball players!
Thundercats Netball Club’s transformation story is nothing short of inspiring. Previously focused on adult-only netball, the club became a junior and adult powerhouse almost overnight. Sadly, a neighbouring netball club was forced to fold, leaving nearly 100 junior girls across various age groups without a place to train and compete, until Thundercats Netball Club stepped in. They welcomed every single player with open arms, undertaking a tireless and massive task that relied on countless hours of dedicated, behind-the-scenes effort.
“For the past 10 years, this club has been my extended family. From 3 players sat on the sidelines of another game dreaming of making a club of our own, to bringing the dream to life. It really has been a dream. Growing year on year on our own and then being in a strong enough position to take on all the junior players when their club folded was a true miracle.
We’ve faced highs and lows, successes and failures but most importantly we’ve touched so many lives over the years. This club now has its very own community, and we look after our own. I love them all”
– Anya Jones, Co-Chair and founder.

This single, generous gesture enabled a huge number of young players in the region to continue their netball journey, and since then, they have successfully developed seven new junior league teams and are already planning to introduce their older junior players into adult leagues as soon as they are eligible, creating a clear pathway for ongoing development. Emily Rosser and Ellie Rowlands shared their appreciation and thanks to Thundercats Netball Club, for taking them in and being so welcoming in the process!
“Huge thank you to Thundercats! You’ve made me feel right at home from day one. Training is always full of energy, the coaches are amazing, and the whole team is so much fun to be around. I’m improving so much and loving every minute. Thanks for giving me a place where I can grow, play hard, and enjoy netball more than ever!”
“Joining Thundercats has been such a good move for me. The training is fast-paced and really helps me push my skills, but it’s also loads of fun. Everyone was welcoming from the start, and it quickly felt like I’d been part of the team for ages. I’m improving every week and always look forward to the next session!”
The clubs focus on participation extends across generations. By hosting Back to Netball sessions, five mums of junior players have become inspired, and are now signed up for adult leagues! Not forgetting their six adult teams who continue to thrive thanks to the clubs ongoing efforts.
“The Thundercats Back to Netball sessions were brilliant! They were inclusive, fun and engaging with brilliant support. They have helped us build a healthier, more active routine by giving us a fun and supportive way to exercise regularly. They’ve also boosted our confidence and motivation, making it easier to stick to positive lifestyle changes both on and off the court. The club have been so welcoming and helped us feel at ease taking up a team sport at this age. We love it!”
– Ffion and Gwawr – back to netballers

Looking to the future, Thundercats have launched a new Young Coaches Programme. This initiative provides club-funded spots for older junior members on our Netball Leaders course, empowering them to take an active role in coaching the younger teams alongside the head coaches. The upskilling doesn’t end there, with the club consistently investing in its people, with two newly qualified Level One coaches and two new trainee umpires across the age groups.
Thundercats is about more than just drills and development. They understand that team spirit is vital! The club regularly organises fantastic excursions to build morale, including trips to SBLASH Water Park and Rib Ride Anglesey. On top of this, they have recently organised a charity netball match between the winners of the two local leagues to battle it out for the title of “Ultimate Champions of the North West”, which raised nearly £1000 for the two charities chosen, Vision Support and St David’s Hospice.

What is special about this club, is their dedication and determination to making people happy. The committee’s daily commitment is born out of a pure, undeniable love for the sport.
“I have been a player and committee member of Thundercats Netball Club since it started 10 years ago, it’s been amazing to see it grow over the years especially since we took on the Junior teams. All the coaches are so committed in giving everyone fair opportunities to play and grow in their netball journey. The committee work tirelessly behind the scenes on a daily basis sorting teams, training sessions, mentoring new umpires, nurturing young players to become coaches of the future. I am very proud to be part of such an amazing Club.”
– Allison Williams (Coach & Umpire)
While the club’s focus is on well-being and participation, their commitment still yields impressive results! In their very first season with junior players, the U12 team, ‘Thunderstorm,’ qualified for the U12 National Club Championship, where they finished as fantastic Plate Runners Up! The club have also been nominated and shortlisted for a 3rd time in the ‘Club of the Year’ category for the Byw’n Iach Gwynedd Sports Awards. We are wishing them the very best of luck and hope they walk away with a win!

A massive congratulations to Thundercats Netball Club—a true inspiration and a deserving winner of our November Organisation of the Month! We cannot wait to see how the club continues to strive over the years and thank their committee for such dedication.
