Organisation of the Month

Wales Netball’s first Organisation of the Month is Cymric Netball Clwb for their dedication to achieving their club vision and ethos: ‘We believe netball is for everyone. We want to be an exemplary club for inclusion in Wales.’ Cymric Netball Clwb was founded in August 2023, and it rapidly welcomed nearly 40 netball players! A proud member of the All-Wales LGBTQ+ Sports Network, they aim to provide a safe space for all those in the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond to participate in Netball.

Catering to everyone, they offer a variety of chances for people to get involved. Whether it is competitively (with two teams competing in the South-East League), socially in their back-to-netball or mixed netball sessions, or through volunteering opportunities at events to gain work experience. They are even working on a form of Wheelchair Netball, and it doesn’t stop there!

Cymric Netball Clwb also host open-category mixed tournament fundraisers, with their most recent fundraiser attracting over 150 netballers! These events bring their community together to boost involvement in hard-to-reach communities and increase the number of males playing netball. All donations raised are then reinvested into the club to help subsidise kit, lower membership fees for new mothers/caregivers, and discount playing costs for non-competitive players.

By positioning themselves to welcome diverse communities, they recognise a need to up-skill and educate volunteer staff. For example, their coaching team have recently attended a course run by Disability Sport Wales to better understand the impact of the menstrual cycle in sport. In the future, they have plans for two coaches to attend the Level 3 Disability Sport Wales course for Inclusion in Sport. Safeguarding Courses on how to work best with diverse communities are also on the horizon.

It is clear that Cymric Netball Clwb truly care about their members and are working hard to open the sport of netball up to everyone. We wish them the best of luck going forward and have no doubt that they will become a pillar in their community!

At the halfway point of every month, Wales Netball will announce its Organisation of the Month. An article will be displayed on our website and a post will be shared across all our social media channels.
