Beca Hughes Wins Player of the Tournament

Despite facing a challenging weekend of netball at the Netball Europe Under 21 Open Championships in Northern Ireland over the weekend, there was a fantastic achievement for the Wales camp to celebrate at the conclusion of the tournament.

Beca Hughes, who starred for Wales Under 21 at Goal-Attack, was awarded Player of the Tournament, having been nominated by her peers from Northern Ireland, England and Scotland. Beca plays netball alongside her twin sister and fellow U21 squad member Catrin, for Mold Netball Club in Flintshire. Beca is a pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Maes Garmon where she will resume her studies after playing in the three U21 international matches over the weekend.

Beca shared her thoughts on receiving the Netball Europe accolade: “I was thrilled to be selected for the u21 squad and to represent Wales at Netball Europe in Belfast. It was an honour to play with the team against the other home nations and receiving the award for player of the tournament came as a huge surprise, especially as I was nominated by players from other teams.

“The weekend was a great experience and coming home with this award made the whole experience even more memorable.”

Welsh Netball would like to congratulate Beca on winning Player of the Tournament and wish her well for the rest of the season.
