Welsh Feather #99, Sandra Connolly (nee Oakley), earned her first cap in an international match against New Zealand on 22 November 1982. Sandra represented Wales in three Netball World Cups during her career.
Her first World Cup was the 6th, hosted by Singapore in 1983, where she competed against teams such as Trinidad, Australia, Antigua, Northern Ireland, and Jamaica. Her second was the 7th World Cup, hosted by Scotland in 1987, where she played 9 matches, facing opponents including Bermuda, Barbados, the Republic of Ireland, the Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Malaysia. Following this, she played in an international match against the West Indies on 1 December 1987.
Sandra’s third and final World Cup was the 8th, hosted by Australia in 1991, where she played 10 games against countries like Western Samoa, Fiji, Sri Lanka, the Cayman Islands, Singapore, and Canada. Her final international appearance was in the Leeks C.C. competition against the Republic of Ireland on 22 March 1993.
Sandra played as Centre and Wing Attack, excelling in the midcourt. She hailed from Gwent. Across her 53 matches, Sandra achieved 28 wins and 25 losses, resulting in a win rate of 52.83%.
In addition to her playing career, Sandra continued to serve netball in Wales by joining the Wales Netball board, where she became the HR Director in 2024.
