Suzy Drane Amongst Four Welsh Athletes Inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame

On Friday 13th September, Welsh Feathers most capped player ever Suzy Drane along with Olympic hockey medallist Leah Wilkinson, Wales football’s all-time leading goal scorer Helen Ward and dual-code rugby international John Devereux were inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame. The four inductions bring the roll of honour up to 164 greats.

Drane has been at the heart of Wales Netball for almost two decades, captaining both Wales and Celtic Dragons. She played across all three centre court positions; centre, wing attack, and wing defence, and made her debut for the Feathers in 2005 aged 18. Drane has represented Wales in 125 international matches including appearing at two Netball World Cups, and four Commonwealth Games.

Suzy Drane, Wales’s most capped Netballer and Welsh Feather Number 168 had a leadership role for the majority of her time in the senior squad and is still an inspiration for all whom she comes into contact with.

To add to her sporting career, Commonwealth Games Wales have recently announced Drane as Chair for Team Wales Athletes Commission. As Chair, she will work together with the experienced athletes on the Athletes Commission to ensure key decisions and recommendations are shared with the CGW Board as Team Wales look towards future games.

Alongside her illustrious netball career, Suzy has been a lecturer in Sport Development and Performance Sport at Cardiff Met University since 2011 following the completion of a BSc and MSc in Sport Development, and Physical Activity and Health.

Suzy Drane becomes the third netball player to be inducted after Helen Weston and Wendy White. This is an immense achievement, and everyone at Wales Netball sends Suzy a massive congratulations!
