Trials for Wales: Gold Coast 2018

Would you like to be part of Team Wales at Commonwealth Games 2018 at the Gold Coast, Australia?

Date: Sunday 29th January 2017
Venue: Talybont Sports Centre, Cardiff.
Time: 10.30-4pm
Registration: 10am

Trialists must be available for the above, any future training/playing commitments post June 2017-May 2018 and the following dates:-

  • Training: Saturday 4th February and Sunday 5th February 2017
  • Test Matches: Tuesday 7th February and Wednesday 8th February 2017

If you are interested in being part of the Wales squad for 2017 – 2018 season, please make sure you meet the Wales eligibility, Commonwealth Games Eligibility and the Playing Standards highlighted below:

Players eligible to play for Wales (Byelaws) shall be:

11.1 Registered playing members of the Association (must be affiliated to Welsh Netball)

AND either
11.2 Born in Wales

OR
11.3 Of Welsh parentage i.e. mother, father or legal guardian
Or from the AGM 2015, having one or more Welsh grandparent/s

OR
11.4 Resident in Wales for one year immediately prior to being selected to play for Wales.
“Resident” is defined as an unbroken period of residency in Wales. Once the terms of residency have been met and representation taken place, the player retains eligibility status provided that the commitment to Wales is maintained.

11.5 For Age group teams only, those aged 19 or under attending school or a further education establishment in Wales

11.6 For World Championships, World Youth Championships and the Commonwealth Games, other eligibility rules may apply that take precedence over these Byelaws

Commonwealth Games Eligibility

Eligibility of Athletes:

7.4 All athletes must be eligible to compete by nationality for Wales as per the CGF Constitution.

7.5 All athletes must hold a British passport.

7.6 Each athlete must either have been:-

7.6.1 Born in Wales;

7.6.2 Have a Welsh parent; or

7.6.3 Have applied for and been granted a dispensation.

7.7 There are some areas where we ask for dispensation, most commonly 5 years residency. This is 5 years continuous up to the Games. Please alert the CGCW office – cjenkins@teamwales.cymru to any athlete who may need dispensation. We are very experienced in this area and can give advice on a case.

Players must meet the following Playing Standards of:
• VNSL/ANZ (in the last two years)
• International (U21) experience
• Experience in other areas will be considered
