Volunteer of the Month

Netball in Conwy has received immense support from one exceptional individual: Lucy Moran. Her tireless dedication across club, league, officiating, playing, and coaching roles demonstrates an unwavering commitment to both the sport and her local community. For this immense dedication, we are proud to name Lucy our Volunteer of the Month for September.

Over ten years ago, Lucy founded Llandudno Netball Club in Conwy. Since its beginnings, the club has become a thriving hub for local girls and women to take part in the sport they love. It now boasts ten junior teams and six adult teams who compete weekly within the North West Wales Leagues. Nic Jasieniecka, who works alongside Lucy on the club’s committee, comments on her commitment: “the time and energy Lucy has invested in this club since its inception is unbelievable. Hundreds of players, parents and umpires love the game because of the community Lucy’s created.”

Lucy’s passion for netball shines through in every session, as she dedicates countless hours to training, mentoring, and supporting her players both on and off the court. She fosters not only athletic excellence but also confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills. Nic Jasieniecka describes Lucy as a ‘triple threat’ due to her status as a top-class player, combined with holding B Award Umpire and Level 2 Coaching qualifications. Ellen Vick, also on the club committee, adds, “Her impact extends far beyond the game, and she truly embodies what it means to be a transformational coach.”

Lucy’s impact extends far beyond the club level. In 2014, she also founded the North West Junior Netball League and fulfils her role as Chair to the highest level. Starting out with a small number of teams, the league has grown year after year. It is now a huge accomplishment, featuring over 16 clubs, with 68 teams across seven age groups.

Ally, Umpire Secretary of the Junior League, shared a personal note:

“Ever since I’ve known Lucy for over 10 years, she has been passionate about the progression of netball in North West Wales, the league has grown immensely over the 10 years and still she continues to actively support young girls across the region. On a personal level, Lucy was an inspiration to me, her passion and dedication to Netball was infectious, she helped and supported me when I started on my coaching journey and for this, I will always be grateful.”

As well as being instrumental in the success of the junior league, Lucy has been an active part of the North West Wales Senior League committee for several years, holding the League Secretary position and offering countless help and advice due to her extensive knowledge.

A keen coach and player, she has played with Jets for 17 years within Division 1 of the Senior League and recently played for North West Fury in the FleetEV National League, where she captained the team on several occasions. Furthermore, she is an active umpire mentor, helping others on their journey refine their umpiring skills and become more confident on the court.

t’s clear that Lucy’s impact spreads far and wide. Her insurmountable efforts have allowed netball in the North West to develop and grow significantly.

Thank you, Lucy, for upholding your numerous duties and for making such a phenomenal impact on your local community!

Wales Netball’s Volunteer of the Month will be announced at the beginning of every month, with an article going on our website and posts going out across all social media channels.
