#volunteersweek – Local Authority HUB volunteers

Welsh Netball’s Local Authority [LA] Hub programme was set up
during the 2014-2015 season, and is currently in its second year of
existence.  The aim of the Local
Authority HUB is to provide a progressive and accessible pathway to maximize
our young athletes’ potential to be the very best they can be.  There are currently 42 separate LA Hub
sessions running across the country, who meet once a month for training.

These 42 Hubs are completely run by volunteers. These vital
helpers are an array of passionate individuals including club coaches, County
coaches, and some that are already involved in the Development and Performance
Training Centres.  These make up a total
of over 30 volunteers – each contributing to the development of raw netball
talent in their area.

Reports indicate that the LA Hub programme has had a positive
impact on community netball already.
There has been such a demand that the LA Hub programme has expanded from
year 1 (2014-2015) into year 2 (2015-2016).

The Hub has increased the number of girls playing netball in
Wales, which has in turn had an impact on the Welsh Netball membership.  As a result, the Hubs have also increased the
number of girls stepping up into the regional Development Training Centres.

All this progress would not have been possible without the
generosity and dedication of the volunteers that make up the LA Hubs.  These multi-tasking, flexible people can play
many different roles – they can be coaching one day and collecting fees the
next. They could take on the responsibility of a selector, or be organising and coordinating teams for competitions.

Our LA Hub volunteers go above and beyond for the sport, and we
at Welsh Netball, as well as those involved in the programme, are incredibly
grateful.

Your hard work is invaluable to the sport, and we are excited to
progress the Hubs further – to share and grow the love of netball across
Wales.  And who knows, a few star players
could be made in the process.
