Wales finish 3rd at Netball Europe

Wales U17′s competed in Netball Europe last weekend, this years competition organised by Gibraltar Netball.

Over the course of the weekend a total of 12 games were played. The performance section of the competition featured England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. The challenge section involved teams from Gibraltar, Malta, Republic of Ireland, and Switzerland.

Wales started their campaign playing Scotland on Friday afternoon in what was a tight competition but the Scottish defence denied Wales the scoring opportunities needed to secure a win, Scotland took the game 62 – 43.

Saturday Wales took on Northern Ireland, the young Welsh side showed courage and picked themselves up from the defeat against Scotland to secure their first win of the championships against Northern Ireland, final score 49-31.

Northern Ireland went on to beat Scotland Sunday morning which meant the championships were opened up and Wales were still in the hunt for the silver medal. Wales played England in the last game of the championships knowing that goal average would be key. Unfortunately the young Welsh side were unable to gain the goal average required to secure silver and finished in third place after being defeated by England 82-14.
