Following an extensive consultation, we are launching a new Wales Performance Pathway for 2022.
Athletes will have the opportunity to benefit from regular training and consistent strength and conditioning sessions. This will support athletes in making progress towards representing Wales at U17, U21 and Senior level.
The aim of the academies is to nurture talent and create an oversupply of athletes, feeding into the international squads.
For the weekly Regional Academies, we have partnered with 7 facilities to deliver a unified programme based on the ‘Welsh Way’ style of play. With Wales Netball appointed qualified coaches, the Regional Academies will prepare athletes for the National Academy and beyond. The partner facilities for Regional Academies from 2022 are:
– Bridgend College
– Cardiff University
– Coleg Cambria
– Coleg Gwent
– Coleg Sir Gar
– Neath Port Talbot College Llandarcy (NPTC)
– University of South Wales in partnership with Coleg y Cymoedd
Additional Regional Academies at Merthyr College and Freedom Leisure (Brecon) will commence in September 2022 with a North West Wales Regional Academy Partner also being sought.
From the athletes that attend the weekly Regional Academies, a number will be selected to join the monthly National Academy training sessions. The National Academy will also be led by Wales Netball appointed qualified coaches and team managers. From the National Academy, the U17 and U21 competition squads will be chosen for Netball Europe and World Youth Cup.
