Wales Netball Welcomes New Chair: Catherine Hares

Wales Netball is pleased to announce the appointment of Catherine Hares as the new Chair of the Wales Netball Board. With a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the sport, Catherine steps into this role following the remarkable leadership of Catherine Lewis, who has been a pivotal figure for Wales Netball over the past fourteen years.

Catherine Hares brings extensive expertise to the position, having served two terms as Vice Chair on the Wales Netball Board. She is also the Parks & Hospitality Manager at Aneurin Leisure Trust, with over 14 years of experience as a Sports Development Manager for Blaenau Gwent. As a founding member and Club Coach at Tredegar Netball Club, Catherine has been a vital part of the Wales Netball participation pathway for over 25 years, contributing through tutoring, mentoring, and community coaching.

In her statement, Catherine expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm:

“Thank you all for your support of me embarking upon this new role. It is an honour to be taking over the reins as Chair of Wales Netball from Catherine Lewis, who has been a remarkable Chair for the past thirteen years, a fantastic role model, mentor, and leader. It is an exciting time for netball in Wales, with our sport flourishing nationwide from grassroots to national performance’’.

Catherine’s commitment to Wales Netball’s growth and development is unwavering. She looks forward to supporting the incredible staffing team and Board Members in building on existing successes while continuing to develop, evolve, and enhance the journey for a Bigger, Better, Bolder Wales Netball.

Vicki Sutton, the CEO of Wales Netball, also shared her thoughts on the appointment:

“I am thrilled to be able to work alongside Catherine Hares in her new role as Chair. Catherine has been such a brilliant asset to Wales Netball so far in her two terms as Vice Chair. I am confident Catherine will continue the great work Catherine Lewis started and help me steer Wales Netball into the exciting new era ahead.”

The Board and the Wales Netball community look forward to Catherine Hares’s leadership and vision in this new chapter. Her appointment marks an exciting phase for the organisation as Wales Netball continues to grow and thrive, from grassroots involvement to elite national performance.
