From today, the Wales Netball Senior Squad will now be known as the Welsh Feathers.
Until now, Wales was the only country in the top 10 ranked teams in the world to not have a national squad identity. After the rebrand of the NGB brand in August 2021, we felt this was the next step to becoming a bigger, better, and bolder version of ourselves.
The journey of finding a new senior squad identity started back in summer 2020. This was an opportunity to create an original and powerful identity which would distinguish the squad and the way they play. The athletes, staff and stakeholders involved wanted to embody the ‘Welsh Way’ in the brand as well as creating a unique name, and we are proud to reveal this new brand to the world.
The Welsh Feathers logo comprises of the Fleur de Lis placed on top of a netball court and encompasses the colours of the NGB brand.
About the Feathers brand, Wales Netball CEO Vicki Sutton said “The Launch of the Welsh Feathers has been almost 3 years in the making. Something so special needs careful consideration to get right. I am thrilled that we have arrived at a name that not only captures the passion of the Welsh Nation, but also the fearless and determined way that the team perform on court. Thanks go to all the Wales Netball Staff, Players and Management that have been involved in the process. Also, to DNA who have really captured the essence of the brand and produced such a great design that can be worn proudly”.
On Sunday 25th September, Wales Netball celebrated all past, present, and future Wales International Athletes. This officially marked the beginning of the Welsh Feathers brand, and we were delighted to honour all 219 Welsh Feathers.
We are excited to start our journey of being the Welsh Feathers on the international stage in the test series against Uganda. This will be the first time in history that the squad will be playing as the Feathers, and there will be no better place to do it than in our new home venue, in front of a packed crowd.
