Welsh Feathers Announce Squad Heading to Vitality Netball World Cup

Welsh Feathers Head Coach Emily Handyside has named her side that will compete in the Vitality Netball World Cup this summer.

The Vitality Netball World Cup is set to be held in Cape Town, South Africa from 28th July until 6th August, the first time ever the World Cup has been hosted on African soil.

Nia Jones will captain the squad as she along with nine other teammates make their World Cup debuts.

Handyside said “After much careful consideration and deliberation, I am thrilled to announce our squad for the upcoming Vitality Netball World Cup.”

“Selection was not easy, which is testament to the talent, hard work, and commitment of all athletes involved.”

“I am confident, that we have assembled a formidable team who will represent Wales with honour and pride.”

“The World Cup is an exciting challenge that we are embracing, and I have complete faith in the team’s abilities to deliver outstanding performances.”

The squad that will represent the Welsh Feathers at the 2023 Vitality Netball World Cup are:

Wales have been placed in Group C alongside hosts South Africa, Jamaica and Sri Lanka, with the Welsh Feathers facing South Africa on the first day of the competition. The match schedule is as follows:

  • Day 1 – South Africa vs Wales – 5pm (BST) 28/07
  • Day 2 – Jamaica vs Wales – 10am (BST) 29/07
  • Day 3 – Wales vs Sri Lanka – 8am (BST) 30/07
  • Day 4-Day 7 – Preliminaries Stage 2 31/07-3/08
  • Day 8, 9 & 10 – Playoffs and Placings 4/08-6/08

The Welsh Feathers won’t be the only people representing Wales at a World Cup. Alison Harrison, Welsh umpire, has been named as a 2023 Vitality Netball World Cup Umpire. Congratulations Alison!
