Welsh Feathers Partnership with SW7 Academy

We are delighted to announce our new Strength and Conditioning and Nutrition provider for the Welsh Feathers Squad programme for the coming season. SW7 Academy led by Sam Warburton and Josh Davies will support our Welsh Feathers for the 2024/25 season. This collaboration is not only about enhancing the physical capabilities of our Welsh Feathers athletes, but also about setting a standard for excellence and striving towards collective success.

In the competitive world of sports, success is often determined by the level of physical conditioning and performance of athletes. To achieve and maintain top-notch performance, we recognise the need to draw on the expertise of well-known strength and conditioning experts. By focusing on factors such as strength, speed, agility, and overall fitness, as well as nutrition, SW7 will contribute to the holistic development of our Welsh Feathers athletes, helping them to reach their peak performance levels.

The collaboration between the Welsh Feathers and a SW7 Academy will go beyond physical training. It aims to foster a culture of professionalism, dedication, and continuous improvement. The Welsh Feathers athletes will benefit from specialised guidance and support, allowing the squad to gain a competitive edge through access to cutting-edge training methodologies and resources. Th collaboration between Wales Netball and SW7 sends a strong message to fans and supporters, emphasising the commitment to achieving success through the highest standards of physical preparation.

Welsh Feathers’ Head Coach, Emily Handyside said about the partnership, ‘SW7 is spearheaded and delivered by former elite athletes who bring expert knowledge about training, competing and performing internationally. Their commitment to excellence and professionalism is exactly what we are looking for. Under their guidance we are confident we will reach new levels of performance’.

Our Head of Performance, Sara Moore said: ‘We are constantly striving to improve in all areas to ensure that the Welsh Feathers programme is world class, and so working with SW7 was a logical step for us, for our S&C and Nutrition provision. From the first meeting I had with Sam and Andrew and the SW7 team it was evident that we shared similar values and that they completely understood and supported our vision for the Feathers programme and where we are headed. I absolutely believe that they will take our S&C and Nutrition provision to the next level, and so I’m excited to see that come to fruition’.

Sam Warburton, co-founder of SW7 Academy: “It’s an honour to be able to provide the Welsh Feathers with their S&C provision. Working in international sport is a huge privilege and to be working with athletes at the top of their profession is something we are very excited about. We are confident we can build on the fantastic work that the team has already accomplished to date”.

SW7 Academy’s Business Development Director, Andrew Jones, said “We are extremely excited at the opportunity to work with Emily and the Welsh Feathers squad. We believe our coaches and the technology they deploy will bring a fresh approach to the athletes’ strength & conditioning with the goal to excel their athletic performance”.

Phillipa Yarranton, a part of the Feathers’ Leadership Team, is ‘excited for the partnership and to be working with SW7 to develop the squad’s understanding of the demand required during international training blocks and challenge ourselves to get the best from our bodies.’

This collaborative approach not only sets new benchmarks for physical conditioning but also encapsulates the spirit of teamwork, dedication, and unwavering commitment to achieving greatness on and off the court. We’re looking forward to working with SW7 Academy for the upcoming season and providing our Welsh Feathers athletes with a new level of strength and conditioning.
