Welsh Feathers recruit Emily Handyside as New Technical Coach

We are delighted to announce that Emily Handyside will join the Welsh Feathers as a Technical Coach.

Emily has an extensive coaching career which stems from twelve years of leading Performance Pathways for Team Bath, Loughborough Lightning, and Leeds Rhinos. During this time, Emily worked as a Technical Coach for Team Bath, winning the Superleague title in 2013, and later joined the coaching team with Leeds Rhinos in their inaugural Vitality Netball Superleague season.

In 2014-2016, Emily took on the role of Head Coach for the England Netball Intensive Netball Training Centre. From there, she was appointed as England U21 Head Coach, guiding them to a bronze medal at the World Youth Cup in 2017. From this role, Emily transitioned into the senior coaching team as an Assistant Coach for the England Futures, achieving a Fast 5 Gold Medal and multiple European titles. Currently, Emily now works as a Coach Developer for UK Coaching, which sees her supporting high performance coaches in Olympic, Paralympic, and professional sport settings.

About the appointment of Emily, Sara Moore, Welsh Feathers Head Coach said “I’m really pleased to be working with Emily Handyside. Emily has joined us as a Technical Coach, and she has fitted in really well. Emily has a wealth of experience, at both Franchise and International level, and is she is already adding huge value to our Wales environment.

Emily and I have worked together previously, so I know that her technical and tactical knowledge, and her understanding of the demands of international netball is first class. Emily is used to working with athletes at both age group and senior level and this balances perfectly with our current group. The squad have welcomed Emily warmly and are thoroughly enjoying working with her.”

Emily possesses a wide skill set which has been used in many settings, and we are pleased to have her be part of the Welsh Feathers management team!
