World Netball has announced its latest international rankings following the conclusion of the 2025 season, and Wales has moved from 6th to 7th place, with Uganda climbing ahead. While this means Wales will not automatically qualify for the next major global event, the Welsh Feathers are embracing the challenge and focusing on an exciting road ahead.
The team’s attention now turns to the Commonwealth Games in 2026, followed by the European Regional Qualifier in September 2026, where Wales will aim to secure its place on the world stage once again.
Head Coach, Emily Handyside, commented:
“Rankings are just one part of the story. This season has been about building depth, introducing new talent, and strengthening our squad for the future. We’ve seen incredible performances from newly capped players alongside our experienced athletes, and that balance is key as we prepare for the Commonwealth Games.”
The 2025 international season showcased the emergence of fresh talent, with several players earning their first caps and making an immediate impact. Combined with the leadership of seasoned internationals, Wales is developing a dynamic squad ready to compete at the highest level.
Looking Ahead:
- Commonwealth Games 2026: A major opportunity to showcase Welsh netball on a global stage.
- European Regional Qualifier (September 2026): The next step toward securing a place in the World Netball Championships.
Wales Netball remains committed to its vision of growing the sport and inspiring the next generation of athletes. The journey continues, and the Welsh Feathers are ready to rise to the challenge.
