Welsh Netball Stands in Solidarity with Social Media Boycott Against Online Abuse

Welsh Netball will be joining with fellow National Governing Bodies in netball, Welsh sport and the wider sector in a boycott of social media, taking place from 3pm on Friday 1 May to 11.5pm on Monday 3 May.

The social media boycott is in response to the ongoing and sustained discriminatory online abuse targeted at professional athletes and others in sport, which will not be tolerated nor accepted in any part of our game. We expect our platforms and those of the netball community to be free from hate, abuse, racism or any kind of harassment. We will continued to actively work towards the removal of any abusive comments on our social media platforms and towards the eradication of this kind of hate from society. We call on social media companies to do more to prevent the spread and promotion of abuse and harassment on their platforms.

As a result, Welsh Netball will not post on its Facebook, Instagram or Twitter accounts during this time period. One exception to this will be if and when the need arises to make important statements of information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and changes to our Return to Play Key Dates information.

We encourage our friends across the netball community to join with us in the boycott, whilst respecting this is a personal choice for each individual in our sport.
