Welsh Netball Supports ‘Save Nicola’ Campaign.

Welsh Netball are very proud to support the ‘Save Nicola’ campaign which is fundraising for mum of two Nicola White.  The 32-year-old from Llanelli has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma with limited treatment options.   Nicola’s friends, family and the netball community have come together to support the cause and help fundraise for the treatment that she so desperately needs.

Nicola’s daughter Ava is a member of the Morganite Junior Netball Club.  The whole netball family have been proactive and have organised a tournament on Sunday 2nd April at Llanelli Leisure Centre.  Welsh Netball have donated raffle prizes including a netball signed by the Welsh national squad, a Silver Ferns training top from the recent Swansea University International Test Series, and a pair of complimentary tickets to a Celtic Dragons home game.

“When we were contacted and told about Nicolas circumstances it was important that we supported where we possibly could,” says Welsh Netball CEO Sarah Jones.

“We have tried to do that in numerous ways, by not only donating prizes that can help raise money but also by Celtic Dragons players helping raise the profile of the campaign.

“I wish the campaign great success and really encourage anyone from the netball community to get involved and help raise money for much needed treatment.”

Celtic Dragons stars Stacey Peeters and Kalifa McCollin showed their support when they visited Ysgol y Ffwrnes to meet Nicola’s daughter Ava and her brother Owen.  Both superleague athletes were proud to wear their t-shirts and say it was an honour to meet Nicola’s brave children.

“It was an honour to meet Ava and Owen, and the Celtic Dragons team are proud to support the campaign,” says Kiwi netball player for the Celtic Dragons, Stacey Peeters.

“We wish you all the luck in the world on Sunday and hope you have lots of fun playing netball whilst fundraising for your amazing netball mum.  We can’t wait to meet the lucky Celtic Dragons ticket winners at our game.”

Sunday’s event has received a fantastic response with entries by 40 teams from various clubs, businesses, and reformed clubs from across south Wales.  All will compete in an exciting all-day netball tournament between 11am and 8pm at Llanelli LC.  The event kicks off with the local Under 9 teams taking part in their own tournament.

Organisers encourage all from the netball community to come along to watch and to soak up the atmosphere and grab yourself one of Cam’s cupcakes.  All funds raised by Save Nicola will go towards her Proton Beam Therapy.    If you can’t make it – then why not show your support by donating to the Save Nicola Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/savenicola
