How do I set up a new Club or League?

The following sections have been developed by Wales Netball to offer guidance to individuals looking to set up a new club or league in Wales.

Information pertaining to affiliation, committee positions, insurance and more, can be found on the left.

Affiliate

Wales Netball recommends the first step to setting up a new club or league is to affiliate!

.

You can do so by heading over to our Membership platform here

.

To set up your club on our membership platform, you will first need to log in to your individual membership account. From there you can access the 'set up member organisation' button to begin setting up your club. If you need help you can email in at walesnetball@walesnetball.com and we can help you from there.

.

To set up your league, you will need to email us at walesnetball@walesnetball.com, we can then get this set up for you. To do this, we will need to know your league name, and the individual who will be Super Admin of the League.

.

Once your club / league is established, you will need to select the affiliation tab on the profile to set up your affiliation with Wales Netball.

.

Once your club / league affiliation is paid (£40 for the season), you will be sent an Organisation Governance Pack. This pack is 37 pages long, containing Fact Sheets and How to Guides to help your club / league run effectively.

.

.

If you need any further support, we will be able to help you as an affiliated organisation.

.

Wales Netball also run Club and League Forums throughout the year for committee members of affiliated clubs and leagues in Wales. These are ran by our Head of Participation, and supported by our Participation Support Officer. Relevant information is presented with a section for Q&A's at the end!

Legal Structures & Positions

Your committee is vital for the successful functioning of your netball club or league.

.

Dependant on the size of your club, you may have many roles that need filling.

.

All clubs are required to have these four key roles:

  • Chairperson
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Safeguarding Officer

.

It is suggested that clubs advertise these roles with truthful role descriptions, so interested volunteers fully understand the commitment they would be making when undertaking these roles.

.

In order to exist as a club you need to identify an appropriate legal structure to adopt. The most common ones for sports clubs are:

  • Unincorporated Association
  • Charitable incorporated organisation (CIO)
  • Community Interest Company (CIC)
  • Community Amateur Sports Club

To decide, you will have to decide whether your club will be incorporated (a legal entity in it's own right), or unincorporated (an agreement between a group of people for a reason other than to make a profit). There are many considerations, which you can read more about in our Governance Pack, which all clubs and leagues receive on affiliation.

.

.

.All Leagues are required to have these four key roles:

  • Chairperson
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Additional roles such as Umpire Secretary.

.

More information about Committee Roles can be found in our Governance Pack, sent out to all clubs and leagues who affiliate with us at Wales Netball.

.

Additionally in our Governance Pack, we provide information regarding running an AGM, running a committee meeting, minute taking, and more.

Insurance
