Information Regarding Social Distancing for Under 11s

At last week’s Welsh Government update, it was announced that Under 11s now no longer have to adhere to social distancing restrictions. This week, we have sought clarity on what this unexpected announcement means for participants in the netball environment.

Following consultation with Welsh Government and the wider sports sector, it has become clear that this change in guidance relates more to family and educational settings. Netball remains a high-risk sport in terms of its potential for the transmission of COVID-19.

Therefore, we strongly recommend that Under 11s continue to observe social distancing whilst in a netball setting. This is in line with our ‘Return to Play’ roadmap, which currently requires all netball fitness activity to take place within an outdoor, socially distanced environment.

The health and safety of the netball community is our primary concern and we believe a cautious approach to returning to play is the best policy to minimise the risk of the spread of COVID-19. This is at the heart of our ‘Return to Play’ roadmap and #NetsGetReady safety checklist for clubs and leagues. We will continue to monitor and review the expert medical guidance available to us as we look to progress further on the roadmap.
