Wales senior and U21 netball teams’ first training sessions
were held today in Durban, South Africa.
The two teams appeared strong during both morning and afternoon
sessions, in preparation for their upcoming test match series against South
Africa.
“It was great to get on the court for a double training
session today,” says Wales senior Captain Suzy Drane.
“It was good to run the legs out and carry on from where we
left our preparations in Cardiff.”
The SPAR Challenge against Netball South Africa begins on
Friday at the Durban International Convention Centre. The goal for both teams between now and then
will be to train hard and to push to make starting positions for the first
match.
“It was great to get the players on court for two trainings
today,” says senior Head Coach Trish Wilcox.
“The team brought great intensity to today’s sessions –
consolidating our processes and pushing each other for those starting
positions, which is what we want to see.”
Two of the top ten highest ranked netball teams in the world
will play three matches between 17 and 19 June.
Wales U21 will face SPAR Baby Proteas on court before each senior match.
Wales have never travelled to South Africa to play netball
before, and so this will be a historic and exciting weekend of competitive
match play.
