Welsh Feathers Warm-Up Game Match Report

A fierce battle gives valuable preparations for the Welsh Feathers with less than a month to go until the Netball World Cup.

The Welsh Feathers claim victory over the Scottish Thistles after an intense World Cup Warm-Up Match. Matches between the two teams always display a ferocious fight, and this match was no different! This final match before the two teams head to South Africa gained an invaluable for Head Coach Emily Handyside heading into Wales’s final camps.

As the crowd started to fill House of Sport, the atmosphere was starting to build. The excitement for seeing the Welsh Feathers World Cup squad in action for the final time before they travelled to South Africa for the major competition was felt by everyone. The time came for the national anthems, and the players felt an immense amount of pride as they began to sing.

After the national anthems had finished, a massive cheer from the crowd echoed throughout House of Sport, and the excitement came as the first whistle of the match came.

Wales started off with intent and gained a slight advantage going into the second quarter. Scotland fought back, but Wales kept building on their lead. The scores at half time were 30-25 after a one-goal lead in the first quarter. In a highly contested match, it was all to play for in the second half. Both teams wanted the win to have a boost of confidence before the World Cup started, so both teams increased the intensity in quarter three. Wales pushed ahead throughout the second half and extended their lead at half-time by one more goal to finish the match 56-52.

The match was highly contested which made it exciting for fans to watch both at House of Sport and from the comfort of their own homes. A big thank you goes out to Scotland for making their way to Wales for the World Cup Warm-Up Match.
